Key Success Factors in Strategic Development of Clusters

Clusters have been recognized as an important means for stimulating innovations and fostering competitiveness, economic development and prosperity. Today, about 20 years after the concept of business clusters gained relevance as a tool for economic  development, it is used by countries and regions around the world with varying speeds, particularities and of course different starting points. Cluster initiatives are undertaken to stimulate cluster dynamics and development. Understanding key success factors behind strategic development of clusters is crucial in order to optimize public resources and deploy efficient cluster policies. This webinar aims to serve to this purpose with examples of success stories.

Albert Solé

Later, at the Catalan Competitiveness Agency (ACC10), he managed the sectorial policies unit in charge of facilitating collective actions to reinforce the competitive position of Catalan economic sectors. He is an active member of European-wide discussion groups in the field of clusters and regular speaker at The Competitiveness Institute congresses. He holds an MBA from the University of San Francisco.

Short Term Programme at the PolyU Hong Kong – Business Environment in Hong Kong and China, 3rd Edition, 5 ECTS Credits (12.-21.4.2013)

China study programme is 9-day programme organized at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. PolyU was ranked among the top 30 Asian universities in 2010.

During your stay you will attend different lectures mostly economy-oriented. It also includes factory visits in Shenzhen (China). You will acquire knowledge about Hong Kong, business communication in China, negotiation strategies in Asia, management and marketing in China and much more.

Selection process for the China Programme – Business Environment in Hong Kong and China is done at the home institution. All the applicants must be accepted by their home institution when applying to this course. The application period will end on January 18th, 2013. All the applicants will be contacted via email for further information after the application period by the course coordinator.

Before filling out the online application please get your passport and be prepared to write you motivation letter. You will also need a scanned photograph of yourself and a scanned copy of your passport. More instructions are in the application form.

Registration for Spring Courses Starts 5.11!!

Hey everyone! Just a reminder that course registration starts Monday the 5th of November and ends 23.11.2012.  Get your registration done early and make sure you get into the class you want :) .  If you want to browse courses easily you can check out http://soopas.jamk.fi/pls/ooo/jaksotukset_asiosta.main.  You can see any course at jamk with that tool.

While you’re signing up for classes why not make sure you address and phone number are correct too.  Has your phone number changed   Have you moved? If the secretaries or staff need to get a hold of you or send you mail, we check the information in ASIO.  This can include info about your study rights etc so it’s important! If your info isn’t correct we can’t get a hold of you so take a moment to make sure.

YHI11S1 – Your individual study plan discussions – book your time with your tutor teacher!

Dear YHI11s1 IBM students,

What a wonderful snowfall today! It is also time to have your individual study plan discussions.

At this time of the year you might have questions or worries considering your study plan, courses, master thesis, study program, elective courses, course drop offs etc. any subject related to your studies. So do not worry yourself but agree a time with me to have a discussion about your studies and how they are proceeding at the moment.

If everything goes smoothly as planned, you can be very proud of that as well! I would like to know about your learning experiences and also how are you managing with studying, working and free time – sometimes a rather challenging combination. I also would like to hear how we in JAMK can further on and continuously help and guide you passing your studies successfully!

JAMK Centre for Competitiveness was established in Spring 2012. It aims to enhance competitiveness of firms, clusters, and regions in Finland. The Centre belongs to the Microeconomics of Competitiveness network established by Michael Porter at Harvard Business School http://www.isc.hbs.edu/ as well as the Competitiveness Institute (TCI) http://www.tci-network.org/

Activities of the Centre can be categorized under the following themes:

-      Dialogue: The aim is to share knowledge, build networks and stimulate dialogue through organizing webinars and roundtables.

-      Applied research and development: The aim of this activity is to measure the competitiveness of firms, clusters and regions and identify major competitiveness issues.

-      Applied consulting: The aim of this activity is to help firms, clusters and regions to improve their competitiveness.

-      Executive education: The aim of this activity is to train executive managers on issues related to competitiveness.

In this context, we ask you to contact the Centre if you see any cooperation potential for improving your organization’s competitiveness.

Message From Hanna-Maija Kiviranta

Hopefully your summer holidays have been enjoyable and relaxing in Finland or elsewhere.  It is soon time to start the autumn semester with new courses!  I will be your new studying tutor and want help you with any questions or worries related to studying and passing your studies in JAMK IBM programme. I have met most of you during the “Growth and International Expansion Strategies” – course last February. Also, Murat have given me information on your studies and your plans for skills development.

I planned we could have tutoring discussions later on October-November 2012, where we can check e.g. your study credits, your timetable for rest of the studies and any issues related to master thesis as well. I will give you suitable times for ab.1hour discussion later on so you can book/suggest your own.  Any questions until then, do not hesitate to contact me personally by email or by agreeing time for a visit.

You have hopefully enrolled the courses already during spring but if you have not, please remember to enroll for autumn 2012 courses in ASIO by September 9 / 2012.
