Kind regards from South-Korea

Sharing my thoughts and experiences about my exchange period in South-Korea

Less than 20 days

Just got my passport back with the visa, yay ! No stress about that anymore 😀 It only took 3-5 business days, I thought it would take like 2 – 4 weeks so I wrote them a letter asking if they can call me and tell me how long it would take normally. They did call me and the lady from Embassy of the Republic of Korea who spoke with me in the phone was really nice and friendly. All the fees including posting was around 70-80€. Plus I had to pay 50€ to the bank for writing a letter of confirmation about my finances for the visa.

I also got the extended insurance, it cost me 130€ and bought a new phone, Oneplus X and new laptop, Lenovo U31. Im spending too much money :’D not good..

Finnair finally answered me, they might actually compensate for the loss. I had to book a night at the hotel (60€) near the airport beacuse I’ll arrive to Incheon airport on 23rd and Ajou University’s free bus ride is on 24th. Dormitory opens on the same day too.

Lists of courses was released 2 days ago. It’s not complete yet, but they will release the final version of it this Friday. They supposed to release it last Friday actually, but it got delayed. There was few interesting courses, like Taekwondo, Jazz dance or something like that, Golf etc.. I must get the Taekwondo course ! 😀

Lists of room assignment results was also released. I got a 2-person bedroom in new international dorm and I’m sharing the room with Korean student. Got a e-mail from AGA Ajou Global Ambassador, there’s a guy that will be my buddy for this semester.

I’ll better go eat my breakfast now.

Kind regards,

Long time no see

Oh man, it’s been long time since i posted something. My apologies about that.

There has been alot of things going on after my last post. I got a new apartment, my birthday party/farawell party for our classmates, since few of us are going abroad as well or changing class.

I had few problems with my flight tickets. First I had to change the flying dates and that cost me 125€. But few weeks ago Finnair cancelled my flight and change the dates to originals. After paying 125€ for nothing, I decided to contact them via e-mail, but they won’t answer me or anything. 🙁

After new year, I’ve been trying to get all the documents for the visa. Just got the confirmation about my finance from the bank. Still missing the recommendation letter from my University. Hopefully I get it tomorrow.

Now I have to deal with the insurance. My home insurance covers 90 days being on abroad. I’m gonna spend at least 118 days in South-Korea, this means I have to buy extra insurance for rest of the days I’m there.

Well then, I’m off the call the insurance company.

Kind regards,

Winter season is officially started

It snows here every year, still it amaze me everytime. Maybe it starts to snow when Im least expecting it, thats why 😀

This fall semester has been really exhausting, I never actually stressed anything, but now all I do is get stressed about everything. Well I kinda deserve it, I let every report and projects pile up and didn’t do them while I had the time.

Recently I discovered a new thing I really like, writing HTML scripts, I just made myself a homepage, check it out ! Tam Tran – Portfolio (opens in new tab)

Im gonna put the link in the description on the right. It’s actually assignment for www-technique course. We had to make this portfolio website for ourself using different techniques. We have to return it to our teacher by 15.12. But I still keep updating and improving after that, like every week so far. If you are interested to have your own site, contact me, maybe we can figure out something 🙂 Contact form doesn’t work, because JAMK’s servers block sending email and of course my website is uploaded to their servers.

I also bought flight tickets last week, it was about 800€ from It’s a straight flight by Finnair, it takes only 8-9hours to arrive to South-Korea from Finland. I hope Ajou University send me the admission package soon so I can stop stressing about it 😀 Im not advertising things, I just want to share every information about this exchange thing so that people who are interested can estimate how much all this cost and how will they apply to axchange etc. I hope my blog will inspire someone to apply to Ajou University or just even studying abroad. This is a opportunity of the lifetime, everyone should experience this.

This friday I have to take the second part of B-hepatitis and maybe something else, I don’t know. But I will mention it my next post.

Update: Took the second part, nothing special actually, my arm was bit sore after that. Last part of the B-hepatitis should be taken 6 months later.

Oh yeah, i should maybe start posting pictures also. I’m out now.

Kind regards,

Nothing new actually.

Few weeks ago when I did the Ajou University’s online application I accidentally sent them an empty self-introduction essay 😀 oopsie.. Next day Ajou University sent me an email and told me send the filled one and I did. Six hours later they answered me that everything is okay for now, I love when people answer me so quickly ! They also told that later this year they send me a admission package. It should help getting the visa.

What else.. hmm..

Well last week I took 3 vaccinations at the same time, B-hepatitis, japanese encephalitis and influenza, my shoulders were sore after that. And I got one day fever next day, must be the influenza vaccination. All the vaccinations cost 144,10€. But still I have to take few more shots later this month. I think that’s gonna cost about 150€.

I also ordered ISIC stundent card. Reason was that I can get really nice discounts from Finnair straight flights to Incheon. Im kinda scared of flying alone so this straight flight is the only option for now 😀

This second year has been really rough, alots of homeworks, reports, projects and seminars. Im just trying to pass all the courses, whatever the grades are, but that’s not good if I ever want to go for higher educations like Master of cyber security.

Also I sold all my airsoft weapons. Not quitting the hobby, but you have to forge the iron when it’s still hot, by that I mean I had to sell them before the season is over and make time for school. Usually if I go play airsoft, I will spend 3-6 hours on the field and after that Im so exhausted and hungry, I can’t do anything actually so rest of the day I just spend watching tv or playing videogames.

That’s all for now.

Kind regards,
