Well now when I have been home quite a while already it is nice to think about this amazing journey that I had. This time went by really fast and sometimes I dream that I would be there again just enjoying my life in that weather and landscape. Especially now when Finland is still waiting for the real summer..

I have got to say that I didn´t learn there that much about logistics but is that even the real point being in Erasmus? I think not. I have decades of time still to learn and after all best way to work is when you work. Nevertheless I learned more vital things. I learned to be even more independent and trust my instinct. I went to another country not knowing anyone from there and that takes courage. Now I can say that I know a lot of people from there. Really nice people. Good friends of mine. I lived in a hostel with many erasmus students from different countries and I learned a lot from their cultures and their countries. Of course in that period of time my language skills and social skills improved as well.

I have tons of pictures from my exchange that I occasionally look a big smile on my face. I can say that it was one of my biggest adventures in my life and I would recommend it to everybody who are willing to enjoy their lives.

All done

It has been a while since I last posted anything here but one reason was that one point I couldn´t even log in here to my own blog site. Other reason was that I have been just lazy..

Today I had two presentations about my paper works so everything is done now!

But a lot have happened. Last week I was hiking in Alps in Slovenia in region where Slovenian highest mountain Triglav is also located. I was hiking with my Turkish friend for two days. Other night we slept outside and other in a dorm cottage that was in 1500 meters. We were really lucky cause sun was shining for us most of the time even thought forecast told otherwise. Hiking trip to Northen Slovenia´s mountainous areas was one of my “must do” things when I arrived here so that is check 🙂 Hiking is awesome!

Yesterday we had nice beach day with my erasmus friends. We were the whole sunny day outside playing beach volley and then swimming in the sea. I really enjoyed my time 🙂 More days like this please! Weather forecast looks good for the end of the week (+25 degrees) so maybe we will have a rematch. Many of those.

Day after tomorrow on Friday we have rowing competitions in Croatia! Our bus leaves from here at 6:45 am and we have there 5 races or so and then back in the evening. It´s really nice to experience these regattas also when after all I have trained rowing here for two months now. I hope we do good there so we have reason to celebrate something when we come back here and have a party. But if not, we will have party anyways 😀

Last week I felt that I had a holiday in a holiday when Hanna was here. I gave zero thought to school works (like that would differ my normal life here but still). We traveled four days in Slovenia and Croatia before we came to Portoroz. Weather throughout the trip could have been better cause many days were cloudy but still it was warm and we managed to see sun plenty of times. At my previous post I said that this time will be my best here and now I can say that it really was 🙂 I still have exchange left but how could I top that.

Now I have returned to my ordinary life here. Yesterday I renewed my gym card and I have been rowing few times this week. Yesterday we also had party in our near bar and the bier was really flowing. I have time till Friday to return my last paper work and then everything is done!

Next week here in Portoroz is holiday week for students so many will probably go to their homes. I don´t know if I should also go somewhere to see new places. Maybe hiking to some natural areas if weather is on my side.

Maritime faculty indeed

This week was all about spending time at the sea. From Monday to Thursday we had rowing every day and then top of all that we spent five hours on Tuesday at the sea sailing. We wanted to experience also sailing and we have sailing group in our faculty here so we decided to go and try. My knowledge about sailing was pure zero and it is not much higher after this first and probably the last time. First two hours were fun learning and enjoying but then it got a bit boring because the whole time I had this one job to do. I don´t know how you can make pulling two ropes for five hours fun but still it was a nice experience. Rowing is more for me.

Tomorrow is a day that I have been waiting for a long time. That is the day when Hanna comes here 🙂 Tomorrow I go early to Ljubljana and then in the evening to the airport to pick her up. Then after one night in Ljubljana we head to Bled that I mentioned in my previous posts and from there to Croatia. I am convinced that these nine days are going to be my best out of my whole exchange 🙂

My good friend Eetu came here also on Wednesday. He stayed two nights in my room and he also had a privilege to participate our rowing training while drinking beer at the back 😀 But he was our photographer and now I have nice photos!

Road trip

Yesterday, on Saturday, we had a small road trip around Slovenia. We rented a car for a really cheap prize with full insurance and headed somewhere. Because of weather wasn´t that good that day we chose to visit some castle and cave. Otherwise we would have gone to see bled that is one of the nicest place in Slovenia, I´ve heard. But this was actually really good deal for me cause I didn´t want to go there yet. Cause next Sunday I will explore that beautiful area with my girlfriend 🙂

But back to our road trip story. Castle that we went to see was really nice for few seconds and then I was already bored. We didn´t even go inside due to expensive tickets and there was nothing to see we thought. Next destination was this huge cave where we had guided tour. The sight was really awesome and the paths inside looked like that some scenes from Lord of the rings were filmed there. You know where Gandalf fought against that firedragonthing.

Then because of the weather was still shit we decided to drive back to Koper and to eat cause we were starving. When we came back to hostel we were so tired that everybody just went to bed. We didn´t even drink this weekend! But on Tuesday we had nice party at our hostel with a lot of people. It was so nice that old neighbor lady decided to call police. Luckily owner of our hostel came to end our party before so police was unnecessary.

Finally I would like to congratulate my good friend Iisak for his birthday. Looking forward to see you again my friend 😉

Enter title here

I really don´t know what the title should be for this post…

But this week I have just enjoyed my exchange here in Portoroz. Beginning of the week wasn´t that good but this weekend was just super. I mean weather. I think this week my plan was to do a lot of school papers and I actually did some progress. I have to do total of six papers for six courses and now I have made two and a half. Today I try to finish the third one. Titles for these three papers have been Cargo flow in distribution terminal, Magnetic compass and Human resource management – Leadership.

In this week I have also been rowing for four times. Best one was on Saturday when it was just for fun. We rowed in the middle of the sea and got sun there for an hour and drank redbull. But tomorrow sweating again. No worries.

Today me and my few friends went to swim to the sea. Temperature was something like 14? so just jump and up again. But it was so great. We have to still wait for a month maybe so that the temperatures are more suitable for swimming. Today and every day in this week we have also played a lot of table tennis. Day and night really. We got the table in this week and already first ball is broken. At the end of my exchange I´m gonna be so good that Chinese want me to join to their Olympic team. This is a warning pointed to my uncle. 😉

School wtf!?

This week had our first lectures. It lasted for two hours and that was already enough to give me a headache. That was only because we thought that the lecture would last only for 30 minutes and I was so hungry and air in the classroom wasn´t the best. But I survived 🙂 And we learned there some things also! We are going to have another lecture on next Wednesday so four hours total contact lessons for this course. Teacher said that normally that course would have 90 hours contact lessons but 4 is good for us. And today I finished my first project paper for another course. So if somebody thought that I´m here on holiday, it is a lie 😉 Actually I have five projects still to be done.

view from our classroom

I don´t know if I told already but I´ve been training rowing with our faculty´s rowing team. Trainings are from Monday to Thursday every evening and it really is tough. After one hour rowing your shoulders and whole body screams for help but I really enjoy it. No pain No gain!!

Weekend in Ljubljana

Finally after been here for four weeks I visited in Ljubljana, the capital city of Slovenia. I went there again with my erasmus group. This time though with arranged car and not hitch-hiking. Five of us went by hitch-hiking and they actually were there before us. So good ride free of charge and quicker.. not bad deal.

We didn´t have there hotel or hostel rooms reserved. Our accommodation was more exotic like it is supposed to be in erasmus life. Four of us had 2m*2m place reserved from some German guy´s dormitory room floor. And the rest four found a place to sleep from couchsurfing. I had an honor to sleep on the floor 🙂

So it was saturday when we went to Ljubljana. First we took our belongings to the dormitory and then continued our journey to the center. There we went Irish pub to drink. After all it was St Patrick´s weekend. There one Guinness that tasted extremely good. Ireland – France rugby match came on TV and people were shouting like hell. But it was great and rugby rules are now more familiar to me. At one o´clock after we had played enough drinking games at couchsurfing place we found our way to bar that was crowded. There we enjoyed our time till it was 4am and then I fell a sleep to comfy floor. In spite of this bad sleeping place, I actually slept quite well and I felt good in the morning.

I´m going to dedicate next week for school works and sports. Lets see how that is going to work out.

Hitch-hiking in Slovenia

Last weekend we had a privilege to enjoy sunny Portoroz . It was +18 degrees and clouds were nowhere to be seen. It was quite windy though. On friday we went to buy ice cream with our erasmus group to one beach bar called Cacao. Then we ate our ice creams in pier. Can weekend start any better? I think not.

On friday night we started to plan for saturday. We came up with this crazy idea that we should hitch-hike to Croatia to place called Pula that is approximately 100 km from Portoroz. So saturday morning we woke up early and took the signs that girls made on friday and started walking to nearest highway. We walked for an hour but nobody stopped, we just got a lot of laughs. Then finally one car stopped and took three of us inside and we started to drive towards Croatian border. In the border officer asked everybody’s IDs and when he looked at mine he shook his head and refused to let me in to the country whit my Finnish ID. Maybe I should have also taken my passport….. Then we all got out of the car and started to figure out what to do. Eventually we decided to hitch-hike to Koper and spend the day there. Although one guy continued to Croatia. (But before he eventually got to go over border police took him in some interrogation room for 45 minutes because he took pictures of Croatian border and flag. They also checked his belongings and camera and asked why I showed my middle finger in this picture ->..    )

I traveled with four different cars that day and even tough we had huge disappointments on our journey it was really exciting day. Croatia is not yet my 15th country that I have visited but I´m going to get it maybe even in this week. Next time I take my passport also with me IF they still let me in to the country cause now they have my picture showing middle finger in front of Croatian border. But it is good that life is not boring:)

Party, gym and football

Well there I actually said it all in the title. 3 hours football on monday, gym and party on tuesday and today again few hours football. Exchange is goood.

Today was first sunny day in this week and I really enjoyed being outside. I think the sun also made me a bit browner. Or it is just my imagination. But rest of the week is going to be sunny and warm (+18 C) so maybe I get some concrete results. Tomorrow I will actually go to school but only to ask why my other professors haven´t answered anything to me about my courses. No rush though cause I was planning to do some trip next week. Don´t know where yet.

Party yesterday started well but didn´t go as planned. We had fun playing drinking games in Hostel but when we went to this “parties”, there were nobody there. Regardless our little mood killer we didn´t panic. We took taxi to Koper where was quite big party and there we danced until our feet were hurting.
