Dmitrii as an Ambassador on the event in Jyväskylä City Hall

I am a first year Tourism Management student from Russia. I was inspired to start my studies by observing Finnish student traditions because I wanted to experience all the bright colors of student life in Finland: overalls, student parties, events, meeting students from different countries and working on international projects and getting a degree of course!

I have joined Talent Boost as a part of pilot project of Student Ambassadors, which means that we are the first generation of international students who are representing our university at events and creating online content to show our life in Finland. I got to know about the project in the beginning of my first semester from a brochure in cafeteria. I’ve got curious and made online application. In two weeks after submitting my application, I was invited to the interview. I was very enthusiastic and interviewers have seen my potential and I got my place right away. It was a great opportunity to learn about Jyväskylä, Jamk and its internal processes, meet people from other departments and City of Jyväskylä.

During my time in Jamk I became more confident in my abilities and gained more inner strength. I feel comfortable to be myself with support of my friends, colleagues and teachers. It is not always easy, but now I know that I can make it through my study years and success in working life later.

Reflecting on my experience Jamk!

Can’t believe that it has been 6 months since I first came to Jamk, time flies!

To introduce myself, my name is Rivon Sachika and I am a first year tourism Management student at Jamk. I am from Sri Lanka, “the pearl of the Indian Ocean” .

To tell you a bit more about my country I can say that this tiny island is a paradise where you get to explore all of the Asia in one island!

When it comes for the reasons of thinking to study abroad is that I have always been a “people” person who loves diversity and to travel around the world.

Snow and winter bliss

I was really interested in Europe since in EU there’s a lot to explore! Specially in Finland since it has been ranked as the happiest country and a winter wonderland!  At the moment I am exploring the beauty of Lapland, a wonderful place with untouched nature!  Where you get to see magical auroras inside the arctic circle! Nevertheless, Finland has the cleanest air in the world!

Pros and Cons:

My experience in Finland has been extremely positive! Finland is very safe, there are kind people around and Finland offers quality education. Specially at Jamk, I I feel like it’s my second home and my batch mates are more like a family now and my professors too. At Jamk, international students get constant support from Jamk Talent Boost program with learning Finnish language and starting career in Finland!

I love creating content and that gave me to work with Jamk as an international student Ambassador!

I did not get any bad experience in Finland or in city of Jyväskylä,

I would love to welcome people across the globe who come study in Finland! And of course, join the Jamk family!
