I did my practical training at Bear Ogilvy, a company located in Toronto, Canada. The company is an early-stage startup in the data and e-commerce space. The company facilitates companies with physical products in their efforts to sell online by taking in their product data in any format and outputting the necessary data to sell on e-commerce channels across the web. The startup was only founded last year (2017), and as such is a relatively new and small company.
My main tasks at the company surrounded the outward facing operations, ranging from maintaining all of the relationships with the key channels, negotiating allowances and contracts with these companies, any marketing of the products, as well as pricing decisions based on factors like product categories and channels. The practical training has been a great way for me to improve my skills, and to get a feel for work experience in another country, with most of my true work experience beforehand coming in Finland.
The placement was also great in that I was able to join the company right around the time of our first launch, and have been able to see and be a part of significant growth over the 6 months that I’ve been here. Building something from the ground up is a thrilling experience for me personally, and the ability to discover and establish a lot of the outward facing processes here at Bear Ogilvy is something that excites me and has led to such a great experience thus far.
