Practical Training at Venture Development Finland

Hello!

My name is Eemeli Rajala, a student in International Business at Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences. Between October 2017 and February 2018 I worked as an intern at Venture Development Finland. My duties included sales assistant’s tasks and various others within the field of consulting that the company worked in. Venture Development Finland is a management consultant company based in Jyväskylä in Central Finland.

The practical training was the best possible way for me to get a real look at how work life actually functions, what are the challenges and what is required of a person. On top of this I got to hone my skills in event management because I was arranging VDF’s events for startups, I was able to get a better glimpse into companies financing and what it actually requires to get financiers for a venture. But the best experience I got during this practical training was in sales. I had never worked in sales before so this jump into a whole new world was a real teaching experience. I grew a lot and learned how sales affects every aspect of a company and how I need to take it into consideration in working life. This experience has been a great factor in me getting my current job where sales is a large part of the job.

On top of me getting experience from sales etc, I learned a lot about different companies. We worked with several different companies in several different sectors and several different international areas. I got to see how all of these companies worked, how they’d developed their ideas, how our consultants worked with them and with the consultants I was able to see the companies challenges and how they could solve them. I was given a lot of opportunities to use my own head to analyze these situations and give my opinions. These situations gave me a lot of confidence in my skills.

Due to this experience I am a more efficient, analytic and confident worker.
