Export of spare parts to all over the world by Purhonen Annika

I completed my internship at Valmet which is a one of the biggest employers in Jyväskylä. The leading global developer and supplier of technology, automation and services for the pulp, paper and energy industries offered a great opportunity to get familiar with the industry.

My position was in the Service Business Line in Global Supply Chain and Logistics department as Export Forwarding Coordinator- trainee. My main task was the forwarding of the spare parts. Forwarding includes communication inside the global matrix organization, with the customers and with forwarding and supplier partners. Composing shipping documents and invoicing is required before the shipments are ready to be exported. In my work, I used the common apps of Microsoft Office 365 and became familiar with ERP system and other business applications.

The day-to-day work was truly international business since I interacted with people all over the world during a workday. I learned to understand how different cultures affect communication and the operating models. Also, I became familiar with shipping procedures and how logistics work on a global scale. The best part of the internship was the ability to learn plenty and no day being the same.

I recommend seeking an internship from a position like mine since it offers a great opportunity to get familiar with the company’s operations and gain knowledge about international business.
