Procurement Specialist – Summer trainee at AGCO Parts by Veera Viertamo

My name is Veera and in this blog post I’ll tell you about my experience as a summer trainee at AGCO Parts in Valtra’s factory in Suolahti.

I found the job online. I was looking for a paid summer internship, and on LinkedIn, I noticed that Valtra is looking for a procurement specialist for a summer trainee position. I sent my application, went though interviews and eventually got the job! Valtra is the leading manufacturer and service provider in the Nordic countries and one of the most popular brands in Latin America, who manufacture tractors in Finland and Brazil. They have over 1700 Valtra employees working in a wide range of production, engineering and service positions around the world, 800 of them are working in Suolahti. Valtra’s machines are sold in over 75 countries.

As a procurement specialist in my summer trainee position at Valtra in Suolahti I was responsible for sales and quotations of spare parts for combine harvesters to domestic customers. In my day-to-day work, I formulated customers sales orders for sales teams in the ERP System and placed the orders. I also kept in contact with domestic AGCO Parts sales teams and the supplier mostly via email. During the practical training I got familiar with company’s ERP systems besides learning new things about Microsoft Office 365 applications.

The experience at Valtra was pleasant, the overall atmosphere was welcoming and I was fortunate enough to get an interesting summer trainee position that taught me a lot about worklife and business in general besides challenging my own working style. In addition, for the first time, I was able to work in B2B sales since previously I only had experience in B2C sector.
