Digital marketing position at Hairlust Copenhagen
Finding an interesting internship place is surprisingly hard. After months of applications and interviews I got the opportunity to join to the Finnish team of international beauty company Hairlust. I wanted specifically to do my internship abroad in a company that would represent my area of interest, sustainable beauty.
So, I spent the last six months at Hairlust in Copenhagen. I joined the growing team of Hairlust in February 2022. The whole company is very international, and company benefits were great. The job included lunch, free gym, fun Friday bars and team building events.
Right on the second day after introduction of the company and different platforms I got the full responsibility of taking care of the Finnish customer service. This ended up being my main task for the rest of my internship. Besides this, I got to try different marketing tasks according to the needs of my team. These tasks included optimizing google ads and the website, as well as translating, editing, and adding content to the social media platforms and the company website. I also got to execute my own little influencer campaign which was quite fun. At the last months I got the chance to also create content such as social media posts and newsletters for the Finnish market. During my six months at the company, I got familiar with many useful platforms such as Shopify, Google ads and Klaviyo.
I found the internship through LinkedIn job search. The interview was done through online. My employee was interested in me because I had written my thesis in relevant subject, marketing of green cosmetics. I had to so an assignment answering some marketing related questions before our second interview. All went well and I got good feedback on the assignment. I was offered the internship place which I accepted.
From the working culture and otherwise Denmark does not differ so much from Finland. Everything is well organized and clean. People are at least as nice as in Finland. Just a quick note that doing an unpaid internship in Copenhagen is quite pricy. This should of course be always taken in account before applying. One thing that I would have wanted to know before deciding to go to Copenhagen is that the apartments are very hard to find and the rent is very expencive compared to Jyväskylä, comparable to the rent price in Paris. Also the landlords may not give your whole security deposit back after you leave the apartment. Often the deposit amount can be few months’ rent.
I learned a lot from my internship. As my first office job Hairlust gave me great working experience. As an employee, Hairlust represents everything that I would wish from my future workplace. This really shows in the team motivation that the company has. Even though the company is very young and the team is continuously growing the team feels like a little family where everyone is taken care of. I could work in similar position in near future as long as the company represents something that I can support and stand for.
