Some reflects on my past internship
During the summer 2018, I was looking all around to get an internship opportunity. I applied for some companies, went on to work for a few days and decided that it was not a good fit. Fortunately, the HR department at my last company introduce me to Tan Chau, an import-export emphasized company and said it would be suitable for me. After a week of working there, I felt that I had already found my nest.
To be honest, I think that Tan Chau was not exactly the place that I imagined I would do my internship in. It was not a massive company with expat workers with English as the main language in office. And yet, that was one of the reason why I enjoyed the period a lot. It was a decent sized company, that is why almost everyone knew each other. They warmly welcome me, made me feel almost at home.
Acknowledging the fact that I was still a student without much experience, at first, they assigned simple tasks to me like: insert data to worksheets, do simple translations…But it got harder. During December, the busiest time of the year, me and my fellow interns need to do a lot of on-site surveys, case studies, phone calls to gather enough data and information for the year-end reports, under supervision of the unit manager. Amazingly, even during the highly-stressful time like that, he was still very calm to us and gave us some life lessons that we would never forget.
But on the other hand, the company was moderately hierarchical, with a very strict and hard manager. But i think it was for the best development of the company.
In overall, it was a pleasant internship and I learned a lot from it. I am so thankful that I got this wonderful experience.
